Visiting Summit Brewery in St.Paul Minnesota

I visited Summit Brewery today with my friend Erik and we went for their tour of the brewery partly for the three wooden tokens that were promised to us for FREE BEER. The tour lasted about forty-five minutes with a great overview of being a small craft brewing pub that had been established in 1986. Our tour guide told us about how the beer was made and how each of the many different ingredients worked together. We were able to touch and smell samples of hops, barley, malt, and of course BEER.

As we walked through the brewery we were greeted by the many friendly Summit brew-masters in the cooling room where they added the yeast and other things to the beer during its "cooling" stage. The beer was kept in huge cylinders that had a funnel at the bottom where they said the yeast would often collect and could be harvested for other batches as long as the yeast was still healthy, active, and multiplying.

We then walked into their bottling facility side of the brewery where by our luck the machines were off so we could talk and listen to the guide with ease. Our guide said they bottled nearly 500 bottles per minute when the machine was active and their yearly barrel count was about 83,000 barrels per year which is 2,739,000 gallons of delicious Minnesotan BEER.

Once the tour was finished we were given the opportunity to collect our wooden coins from the guide and go to the rail and order our FREE BEER. I tried their ESB (Extra Special Bitter) Ale while my friend Erik had their Oatmeal Stout which was creamy and flavourful without the bite but was still a very full bodied dark beer. After we indulged with those we sampled Summit Scandia Ale, Summit Oktoberfest, and Summit HefeWeizen. All of which had their own unique taste and flavor. All of which were delicious.

Summit is Known for their Summit Pale Ale which makes up for over 70% of their sales and is a trademark beer here in Minnesota but the Brewery does distribute to over 14 other states across the nation.

If you love beer and want a fun place to visit or take the family I highly recommend this great local brewery here in St.Paul just off of I-35E North of Eagan, MN. You can visit their website and see when the next tour is available for you so that you can experience the rich malty atmosphere and friendly Minnesotans at thesocialelement.com .
