Authenticity, Conversations, Community

These are three of the best ways I've found to be myself online.

1. Authenticity

I've found that no matter what you are doing online that being authentic will get you farther with people rather than being pompous and over-compensating for things you do not have or do not have yet. Never make claims that you cannot fulfill. Be honest never lie. Trust is built online when others see what you say works through their own application or through real life examples.

2. Conversations

Being Conversational in forums, others blogs, your own blogs, chat rooms, in any social platform will bring a "Voice" to the face of your profile and will build character as you interact with friends and others that you have newly met. If others try to start a conversation with you and you never respond it sends a negative message to them and "turns them off" to you and says to them you just don't value their connection and friendship. You must be engaging but never confrontational when meeting someone for the first time. Always give the benefit of the doubt and apply authenticity to every footprint you leave online. Google Never forgets.

3. Community

Be active in the communities you are apart of and always offer to help others who have like interests and passions that you have experience in. I say this because many try to help others when they do not have the answers to the questions themselves. Stick to your guns and share what you know never fabricating what you do not. Create content for others from your experience and post and add to the value of the community as this will help to differentiate yourself as a source of knowledge and will give credibility to your online self mirroring the knowledge and experience you have from real world life.

Bonus: To avoid confrontation and other people butting heads with you avoid topics such as Sex, Politics, and Religion as everyone has their own opinion on these subjects and it is few and far between that people will all agree on these topics.

Sincerely,
